As our children return to school many parents are hoping they will have a successful and productive year. Unfortunately, many children don’t have that opportunity and live in fear of going to school where they may be picked on by their classmates.

Research conducted by BulliesOut in 2009 showed that out of 1000 local young people, nearly 700 admitted to being bullied.

The detrimental impact bullying can have on the physical, emotional, academic, social and personal wellbeing of children and young people cannot be underestimated. At best, bullying causes great distress which can continue right through adulthood. At worst, bullying can lead to self-harm and suicide.

BulliesOut aims to initiate and support efforts to create a safe, healthy and learning community which recognises, respects and celebrates diversity. A key theme is creating a ‘culture of telling’ across settings where children and young people, parents and professionals alike feel confident in dealing with bullying and have faith that appropriate action will be taken if instances are reported. This is why your support is so important to us.
