Hand of Courage

Hand of Courage

Wherever possible, an anti-bullying message needs to be reinforced and all children and young people need to have an awareness and understanding of what bullying is and why it happens. For younger children and special needs children
and adults, this may sometimes be difficult to recognise. This can then make it harder for them to speak about their concerns.

The Hand of Courage was uniquely designed by BulliesOut and cleverly combines
the functions of learning and creativity to appeal to the children and young people it aims to serve. Whilst delivering a vital message, this workshop also enables them to participate in a creative activity which engages them thoroughly

The prime focus and essence of the workshop includes;

•    To understand and explore the qualities of a good friend
•    To understand and explore the qualities of a bad friend
•    To identify a time when someone displayed friendship skills
•    To understand the concept of being brave and the importance of telling
•    To explore the importance of being unique and special
•    To define bullying and explore types and affects
•    To understand the difference between bullying and falling out
•    To link emotional vocabulary to the theme of friendship and bullying
•    To understand the concept of courage

Each workshop is tailored to Foundation, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 age groups and after an age related story or discussion, the children and young people then participate in a creative activity and paint and personalise their own Hand of Courage. Once dry, these can be taken home along with information that reinforces the message.
This workshop supports and facilitates the play and learning process whilst informing the development of anti-bullying education.
